Logenhaus Roast & Grill @ USJ Taipan

Logenhaus Roast & Grill has been operating here for close to almost 10 years now and has so far been one of my favourite Western restaurant in this area. In my honest opinion, I think Logenhaus can really be stiff competition to the other Western food outlets here. Service is very good and the waiter will collect your plate the minute you finish your food. And if you tell them you're not done they will be like vultures eyeing to collect your plate. The environment here is very cozy, dim lighting, soothing jazz beats, and the wooden interior gives it a warm look.

While we were waiting for our  main course, we were given a basket of garlic bread, on the house.

Soon the appetisers started rolling in. Hungarian Goulash @ RM 7.00 was the first soup to be served. The Goulash here is really really good, packed with so many flavors you just can't keep track. You try to think but you just can't, there's just to many ingredients in there. But the flavouring was just nice. A very highly recommended appetiser.

The next dish that arrived, part of a set which I will later explain. Although it looks like the oxtail given is very little, a generous amount of meat is actually hidden underneath. A soup which warms the heart during cold weathers, the soup is well flavoured with pepper and has a very strong ox taste. And the meat is very tender and  breaks into tiny chunks in just one bite.

The first main course to arrive, Spaghetti Bolognese @ RM 18.99. The spaghetti is very well cooked and the sauce is well flavoured, loaded with bits of chicken. Spaghetti also absorbed the sauce very well, making it even tastier.

The second main course to arrive, Mix Sausages Platter @ RM 26.99. Germans are famous for their sausages right? And since this is also a part German restaurant, I decided to give this dish a try. The portion of this dish is fairly big, four sausages, mashed potato salad and steamed vegetables. The sausages are quite good, well spiced and cooked perfectly. But the special sausage is the one located on the extreme left of the plate. This sausage might look the same but it's actually loaded with mushroom bits and cheese, very tasty. The mashed potato salad was also very good and the steamed vegetables were very tender.

The restaurant's special, Grilled Chicken w/ Spicy Peppercorn Sauce inclusive of a cup of Cappuccino and Oxtail Soup @ RM 28.99, quite reasonable. The chicken is roasted perfectly, the skin just so crispy and the meat is juicy and very tender. Easy to chew. If you ever find the meat dry, you can always dip it in the peppercorn sauce given A.K.A mashed potato sauce ( although a bit spicier ). It also comes with steamed vegetables on the side and some grilled potatoes.

The star of the meal, Grain Fed Sirloin Steak w/ Fresh Mushroom Sauce @ RM 47.99. First of all, the meat is cooked perfectly, leaving it with a well flavoured and tender texture. The sauce that comes with it is also very good, thick and well flavoured. It also comes with a portion of Baked Potatoes with Tartar sauce on top. The baked potatoes was so good, very mushy on the inside and blends perfectly with the tartar sauce. Feels like heaven.

With a wide variety of beers to choose from, we decided to order a Original Paulaner Beer @ RM 24.99. This beer is slightly better than the likes of Carlsberg and Guiness. The taste of the beer seems to be rather thicker and  stronger than other beers and will not leave you with a bloated tummy afterwards.

FINAL SCORES

Service : 5/5
Hygiene : 5/5
Pricing : 4/5
Food : 3/5

Overall it was quite a good experience there, the total bill came up to RM 180.00 inclusive of GST, almost the same with any other Western restaurant. I would return there if I had the chance to. See you soon, until then, Bye!

Bei Zhan Restaurant @ Jalan Kota Laksamana

Since Bei Zhan opened in 2008, it has established itself as so far the best restaurant that serves Chinese food in Melaka. The food is said to be so good that some Singaporeans are willing to take a day trip to Melaka and bring their families along just for the food here. The picture above is their new restaurant which they moved about two years ago. If you're on your way to Klebang or Melaka Raya using the Jalan Kota Laksamana way, you just can't miss this building. I mean look at it! It's a big three-storey building that is painted totally white. And when night falls, the lights will be switched on and the restaurant will look like a small palace. Enough with the talk, let's go in.

As you can see in the picture even though it's just on a Wednesday, the restaurant is super crowded. Luckily we managed to get a seat and start ordering. The waitress was very well trained in recommending to good dishes and the ingredients in it.

Wow! The owners are so environmental friendly. You can see the christmas tree decorations are made out of old newspapers folded up and  painted green. Way to go, Bei Zhan!

Mixed Vegetables Curry  @ RM 8.00. A curry which consists of long beans, bean curd skin ( Tau Ki ), brinjal, cabbange and sliced ladies finger, all cooked very well. The texture of the curry is very thick not like some restaurant's which is very diluted. Spiciness is average so people who cannot take spicy food can eat this. Not to mention it goes very well with rice. We always order this when we dine here. Highly recommended.

Crispy Spinach with Pumpkin @ RM 16.00. The dish tells it all, well not really. A very special dish which I hardly come across in other restaurants. The spinach is deep fried till it becomes very crispy and lined at the side of the plate whereas the star is in the middle. That's right, the pumpkin in some butter and milk sauce that goes with it. Now the way to eat this dish is to mix the spinach with the sauce and eat it, if you eat the spinach alone it's very tasteless. And you eat the pumpkin. I must first warn you, do not take too much of the sauce or you will get sick because the sauce is very concentrated and rich. And you may vomit. So if there are only two of you, you should get the small portion.

Deep Fried Prawns with Mayonnaise @ RM 32.00. Bei Zhan decided to go back to basics with this dish. Primarily deep fried prawns and some mayonnaise on top, very normal hor? But looks can be deceiving. The prawns are fried perfectly leaving it with a crunchy texture and the amount of mayonnaise given is just nice. The size of the prawns are also quite big for medium, no wonder costs RM32.00. They also do not stinge with the lettuce, it can probably cover the bottom of the plate. One of my favourite dish here, a must-try for newcomers.

Fried Egg with Black Fungus @ RM 12.00. When I first tried this dish, my mouth was literally blown away. Do you know what the fried eggs taste like? It tastes exactly like the "O Chien" fried eggs . Once I started eating this, I just couldn't stop. And Bei Zhan improved this dish by adding pieces of Black Fungus to it. And I must say, the black fungus goes quite well with the eggs. The parsley one top makes it taste even more like "O Chien". But this is another version of the dish, the original one substitutes the egg with minced pork. Personally I prefer this one, because how often do you get "O Chien" in a proper restaurant. This is one heck of a dish. Once you try it, you can never stop. A very highly recommended dish

Braised Pork with Yam slices @ RM 20.00. I highly recommend this dish to those fatty-pig lovers like me, but this dish has a bit of healthiness in it. What is it you ask? The yam slices. The pork is cooked too near perfection. The meat is so tender and juicy, the fat is so soft it melts in your mouth. And the yam is cooked till it is cotton soft.  Very beautifully cooked.

All together the meal cost us RM 110.23 exclusive of drinks and inclusive of GST and snacks for seven people. Pretty reasonable, considering the dishes we ordered.

Overall, we had a wonderful experience. The food was fantastic, good hospitality and reasonable prices. I would definitely recommend friends there. But if you want to go there on school holidays or public holidays, please make sure to book in advance. I will attach phone number and full address below. See you at my next post until now bye bye.

P.S: Sorry for the bad photography, I',m still a rookie in this. Don't worry, I will improve it on my next post. Please leave a comment for any improvement, your opinions are very appreciated.
